Burns works in the fields of architecture, art, and education. Born in Chicago, Burns spent several years working at various architecture firms, mostly in New York City. His research interests range from ancient to modern architectural history. Burns is an Affiliated Fellow of the American Academy in Rome(AFAAR), Fellow of the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art, and is currently on the faculty of the School of Architecture for the University of Notre Dame Rome Program.
